New Year // New York

I successfully surprised McKay with a trip to NYC Christmas night! I've been planning this since August and I can't believe we're finally here - and that it stayed a surprise all the way til the airport. That story is forthcoming. For now, I just want to highlight the past two days.

We arrived in NYC about 6:30 Saturday morning. We found our way to the apartment where we are staying and took a nice long nap. By 1:00 we were ready to play! We grabbed deli sandwiches at the little market across the street. We saw break-dancers at Grand Central station. We went shopping on Madison avenue and ate some of the best sushi imaginable.

It was pouring rain that day and we arrived home soaking, and exhausted. We climbed into bed early and watched a movie . . . but by about midnight we weren't tired and instead of sleeping we googled a 24 hour drug store and headed out on the town again. We loaded up on late-night snacks and a few forgotten necessities. Back home we ate too much and then stumbled to bed. It was a fun day!

Today we slept in and then spent the day experiencing Times Square and Central Park. It was a sunny, clear day. We got candied nuts and hot dogs from street carts. We ate enormous pastrami sandwiches from Roxy deli in the heart of NYC. We saw the Manhattan temple, which is right across the street from Juilliard. We stopped in at a mall that had a bunch of hanging stars that played a light show with music. Cool. We grabbed some cocoa from a high end grocery store called The Food Emporium. It was a pretty legit store! I'd like to buy a few fine cheeses from that place. It gets dark pretty early here, so by 6 or 7 I feel like it's midnight! It's only 8 pm here but we're home for the evening, ready to relax.

Tomorrow we see Lion King on Broadway!

Here are some pictures from today.
